Introduction of Forstavir EM Tablet

Forstavir EM Tablet is a combination of two antiretroviral medicines containing emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. It is used in the treatment of adults and adolescents (aged 12 years and older with a body weight of at least 35 kg) infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1. It also helps control HIV infection and prevent the development of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Forstavir EM does not completely cure HIV infection. It will reduce the progression of a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and other HIV-related conditions. This tablet will work by stopping the virus from multiplying in the body. ​

Pre-exposure prophylaxis: It is used in combination with safe-sex practices to reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV infection in adults at high risk.

How to Use Forstavir EM Tablet?

​Forstavir EM Tablet can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or open the tablet. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.​

How Forstavir EM Tablet Works?

Forstavir EM Tablet contains two active substances, emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil. Both of these active substances are antiretroviral medicines which are used to treat HIV infection. Emtricitabine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor and tenofovir is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor. However, both are generally known as NRTIs and they work by interfering with the normal working of an enzyme (reverse transcriptase) that is essential for the virus to reproduce itself.
